TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Minister of State-owned Enterprises (BUMN) and Chairman of the Committee for the Management of Covid-19 and National Economic Recovery (PEN) Erick Thohir said that he already has plans for the distribution of the Covid-19 vaccine. He admitted that he already had two vaccine delivery schemes.
For BPJS Kesehatan participants, he said, vaccines will be provided free of charge. “The state-sponsored vaccines are funded through the state budget (APBN) budget, using BPJS Health data, there will be a mass-free vaccine early next year. So those registered with BPJS Kesehatan are free,” Erick said during a meeting with Commission IX in DPR, Thursday 27 August 2020.
For the second scheme, Erick said, for non-BPJS Kesehatan community groups, they can administer vaccines independently of private funds. This proposal deviates from the government’s attempt to reduce the need for a state budget, which has so far widened the budget deficit.
“We also suggest that people can pay for independent vaccines for those who can afford it, to meet our needs for the state budget. But with that level of solvency, it will be independent,” Erick said.
