TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – The government is making an effort to make a Covid-19 vaccine available from November 2020. Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan also hopes that a number of parties, including hospitals, will strengthen cooperation.
“I want more cooperation between hospitals, exchanges of doctors and health workers, collaborative research and technology between the two countries (working together on vaccine procurement),” Luhut said in a statement on Monday, October 12, 2020.
Luhut, along with Health Minister Terawan Agus Putranto, President of PT Bio Farma (Persero) Honesti Basyir, and Indonesian Ambassador to China Djauhari Oratmangun have just held a bilateral meeting with China’s Foreign Minister and his staff on vaccine cooperation. The meeting was held last weekend in Yunan, which was also attended by the leaders of Covid-19 vaccine-producing companies, namely Cansino, Sinovac and G42-Sinopharm.
This meeting aims to complete the purchase of the Covid-19 vaccine, which has been explored by BUMN Minister Erick Thohir and Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi for some time. Currently, the vaccines from the three companies have entered the final phase of clinical phase three studies in the process of obtaining authorization for emergency use in a number of countries.
The Cansino vaccine has completed its third phase of clinical trials in China, Saudi Arabia, Russia and Pakistan. Meanwhile, the G42-Sinopharm vaccine is conducting a third phase of clinical trials in China, the United Arab Emirates, Peru, Morocco and Argentina.
Meanwhile, Sinovac conducted the third phase of clinical trials in China, Indonesia, Brazil, Turkey, Bangladesh and Chile. The government confirmed that the three companies had obtained documentation for authorization use from the Chinese government in July 2020. The United Arab Emirates also granted authorization authorization for the G42 Sinopharm vaccine.
Honesti Basyir said that the halal guarantee for the Sinovac and Cansino vaccines would be given by MUI in the process of testing the data. In the same way with the guarantee for the G42-Sinopharm vaccine. “The MUI in Abu Dhabi has stated that there is no problem with the halal G42 vaccine,” Honesti said.
